Three Things

Three things I saw today: An albino pigeon. He looked like a combo of my two favorite birds---the pigeon and seagull. You can imagine I did not sidle up to him on the sidewalk. I'm still skirting. Water falling far, in the low-angled evening light off the bridge. I could see each individual drop fall from so far up that they seemed in slow motion. Instants

Before winter blows away, here are two things I was not prepared for with city life. Having to use an umbrella in the snow. The winter gusts. Not only walking through gusts which try to flatten me around each corner, but also the trash tumbleweeds. I almost got smacked with both a floppy latex glove and a milk jug today on the sidewalk. We are back from a lovely weekend in the South visiting Walker's grandma where I ate a lot of cheesy grits and pork belly, and heard lots of "Aye-lee" and…

Hearts

I've been thinking a lot about hearts these days. On Friday, a technician in a white coat saw through my skin to watch mine, while I heard it in that thick, underwater sound of sonograms. It's been a couple of tiring months with lots of tests and few answers, but through it all, there is a steadiness and hope: I am loved. And in love, there's no room for fear.
