Wyoming-23

Yellowstone National Park

Wacky is the best word I can think of for what we saw in Yellowstone. As I wrote about in the last post, during our anniversary trip to Wyoming this year we took a day trip to Yellowstone. One of the first stops we made was at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, a massive waterfall that gushed into a gorge so deep it made me dizzy, and looked as if it had been painted in burnt siennas, soft oranges and pinks. I wasn't fully prepared for what awaited us after about a 6 hour trip through the park, w…

Wyoming-63

Jackson, Wyoming: Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks

In our first trip to the West, we were mesmerized by the long sunsets that lit the plains golden for hours each night. We celebrated our 4th anniversary in Wyoming this year, a place I've dreamed of visiting nearly as long as I can remember. Our plane eased down between rows of Tetons right into Jackson, the only airport in a national park (it was there first!). And there we were: in dry plains interrupted by the jagged, shockingly high peaks of the Tetons. Walker's cousin met us at our hotel (…

Catskill_2014-25

Catskill, New York

Just under a month ago, we took a trip to the land of rolling woods crisped and toasted by the autumn. For years, we've planned to wander up the Hudson, and for some reason it never came together until our friends/neighbors found a nook in the country, and booked it. The whole weekend couldn't have been more idyllic. I was whisked away from work by a car packed with weekend supplies and this little guy who melted my heart all weekend. After dinner in New Paltz and some serious winding through da…

Boats, Trains, and Tires in Scotland

Our trip over oceans through woods to islands in Scotland happened in subway, taxis, planes, trains, boats, and cars. For my last post on our summer trip to Scotland, I wanted to share some of the photos Walker took on trains and boats on our travels. From Edinburgh, we boarded a train to Glasgow and then to Mallaig. The trains made a thousand stops, but seeing into each village and glen was kindof like looking into beautiful living rooms here in Brooklyn so it was all part of the fun. I loved a…

Scotland2014_Skye-8

The Isle of Skye

If there is a magical spot on the globe, I'm pretty sure we found it last month. We arrived via train from Edinburgh, then a ferry from the town of Mallaig onto the Isle of Skye, a place where every view stunned, the winds blew constantly, and everything touched water. I'm so excited to share this remote corner with you. Our first day started a bit of a downer as there was an accident on the main road (and as there is only one main road, the island was basically shut down for 9 hours), so we det…

Scotland2014_Edinburgh-3

Edinburgh

I am so crazy excited to share our recent visit to the country that will always stand a spire's height above all others for us. In July, we went back to Scotland for the first time in three years, and the reunion was sweet as Scottish fudge (which is basically 100% sugar). We trisected the trip with stops in Edinburgh, the Isle of Skye, and St. Andrews, so I'll blog accordingly, starting with Edinburgh, that city of stately stone and effusive greens. Nearly as soon as we arrived in our hotel in…

Grand Cayman Sea Life

I know it's been ages since I've been here, but that's because we've been so many other places! Summer in New York can be unforgivingly humid, but also starbursts of free concerts, ferry rides, and rainbows of delicious food. We've also been to Minnesota, Scotland, and the Jersey shore this month, so photos of those spots will be on their way here soon. For now, back to a summery trip we took when it wasn't quite so summery out. Here's a wrap of some sea adventures we took around Grand Cayman ba…

Seven Mile Beach-5

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman

I'm so excited finally to show you a little bit of our trip to Grand Cayman from this past March! We're slowly editing the photos, so there will be lots more to come. Before I start, let me just say I promise I wasn't traveling solo--I wish the handsome photographer and his parents were in a few of these, but for some reason most of the photos we have are of me. After a pretty short flight from New York (maybe 3.5 hours), a steel drum band welcomed our plane at the airport and bright-red rooster…

Smorgasburg-2

Smorgasburg

The park that starts outside our front door extends over a mile down Brooklyn's waterfront, and this spring it opened a new section! It's our favorite walk in the City, and most weekends we walk to the end and back several times. When I think about someday maybe not living here, leaving this walk is what gives me heart pangs. Walker brought the camera along this weekend to show you some of our favorite stops along the way. I was very happy not to be carrying anything heavy. You can take the East…

Brooklyn Botanical Garden-11

A Brooklyn Secret

A crazy thing has happened in the City in the past week. Spring! The temperature has blown up over 50 degrees, and suddenly there are thousands of daffodils flocking in every brown corner I never notice. Little known Brooklyn Fact: The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are free to enter between 10am-noon on Saturdays. You can stay as long as you like as long as you're in by then. We met up with our friends who live near there for a slow walk, donuts at the farmer's market, and delicious pancetta and eg…
