With the sidewalks quickly starting to sizzle up ice cream (and garbage) drips here in NYC, Walker and I took a quick trip out of the city’s summer aromas to a farm up the Hudson, the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. I visited the farm and the accompanying restaurant, Blue Hill, almost exactly a year ago for my office’s sales conference and had been wanting Walker to see the incredible barns ever since. We took the Metro North Train from Grand Central a quick 40 minutes to Tarrytown…

Hamptons Poetry Retreat
A few weekends ago was one of my favorites in a long time because it joined some of my favorite things in the world: poetry, fresh food, getting out of the city, and the beach. On Friday, I took the Long Island Railroad out to Hampton Bays to participate in a poetry retreat with Brooklyn Poets. Each day was packed with workshops and classes, time to sit by the pool on the most enormous deck I have ever walked on, lay on a towel by the green ocean watching surfers in wet suits mount the stacked…
Storm King
This post is chronologically confused, but I managed to forget the photos for half a year, and thought now would be a good time to share about our trip with our friends up to Storm King Art Center in October. We started the drive with a few stops at state parks on the way up, including this one whose name I can't recall, but was solitary save for the geese. We also drove into …
Catskill, New York
Just under a month ago, we took a trip to the land of rolling woods crisped and toasted by the autumn. For years, we've planned to wander up the Hudson, and for some reason it never came together until our friends/neighbors found a nook in the country, and booked it. The whole weekend couldn't have been more idyllic. I was whisked away from work by a car packed with weekend supplies and this little guy who melted my heart all weekend. After dinner in New Paltz and some serious winding through da…
Daycation: Fire Island
We fell in love where the water came to earth, and last weekend my feet were craving that same kind of place, so we planned a very spontaneous trip (best kind!) to Fire Island. Despite a pile of transportation to get there (walk to subway to find our train isn't running--to cab--to LIRR train--to another LIRR train--to taxi--to ferry--to Ocean Beach!), there was a blissful lack of transportation on the island. No cars, just lots of feet and bikes and carts. On the island, I may have proceeded wi…
